Top Ten Arctic Monkeys Songs
The Arctic Monkeys have an impressive discography with 6 albums under their belt as of 2018. This is a list of my personal top ten favourite songs by the band. It was difficult enough to pick just 20, narrowing it down to ten was harrowing.

Honourable Mentions (In no particular order):
- The View From The Afternoon
- Brainstorm
- Teddy Picker
- 505
- Pretty Visitors
- She's Thunderstorms
- Library Pictures
- Fireside
- Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?
- Knee Socks
10 - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
From their debut all the way in 2006, this no. 1 single has all the classic charm of Alex Turner and his raw, explosive band. Certainly not as refined as songs from later albums but so utterly enjoyable even now.
9 - Snap Out Of It
This one never gets as much love as I feel like it should. A poppy, straightforward indie jam from the hip-hop influenced AM; this song is just crafted so well. Every drum rhythm, guitar line and vocal is just extraordinarily catchy. Yes it's simplistic and definitely radio appropriate but that's not a drawback in my mind.
8 - R U Mine?
Ok so what happens when the Arctic Monkeys make a rock song that has more guts and might than anything else on AM? Well 'R U Mine?' clearly! This is just a phenomenal, energetic and powerful song, a headbanger and a winning moment in a great album.
7 - Do I Wanna Know?
How to top the lead single of an Arctic Monkeys album? Sometimes it's the second single of an Arctic Monkeys album that can do that. Definitely in the case of AM. Or maybe not. Every day I change my mind on which is a better song, 'R U Mine?' or 'Do I Wanna Know?'. The latter is a hip-hop and indie rock crossover that probably set the groundwork for Rat Boy to start his career. The song may be slower than a typical Monkeys song but it builds to become a just incredible and interesting hit that will linger in your mind whenever you're not listening to it. Kind of like the questions asked in the song.
6 - Leave Before The Lights Come On
A non-album single that followed up their immense debut and landed at no. 4 in the UK, this is a ferocious and galvanised song that the band just doesn't make anymore. It's fantastic, a constant favourite of mine that is well worth some extra listens.
5 - Mardy Bum
Returning to the debut is an indie rock classic that somehow never charted although has been praised and commended by fans of the band for ages. I find it to be so potent and a soft highlight on the raw debut. It's always an entertaining experience listening to this song.
4 - Fluorescent Adolescent
A radio, critic and fan favourite, this song is a 2000s classic that was the summit of the sophomore album Favourite Worst Nightmare.
3 - Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair
The lead single from the unfortunately underrated album Suck It And See, this is a psychedelic tinged, raw ripe and ready indie essential. It's the lowest charting Arctic Monkeys lead single and is often overlooked in their discography but it shouldn't be. With great guitars and fantastic lyrics from Alex, this is a force to be reckoned with.
2 - Crying Lightning
THIS is a force to be reckoned with. It's high voltage, high-energy and emotional with excellent guitar lines crafted expertly, just like in all the other songs from Humbug. Unfortunately, that album wasn't as exciting or spine tingling as its lead single because this bests almost every song the band has put out. Almost every song...
1 - A Certain Romance
'A Certain Romance' was the closer on the debut and a slower, more gradual but equally epic track with just masterful lyrics and perfectionist instrumentation. It might be a common favourite among Monkey's fans but for me no other song comes close to topping this flavoursome, epic indie rock extraordinaire!
