Beach House - 7 (Album Review)
I've taken a while to review this fantastic dream pop album, with all its fullness and grandiose. I'd dare to say it could be Beach House's best album.
From opening song 'Dark Spring' you can tell something has changed. Their sound has become much fuller, more expansive and definitely less restrained. The aforementioned opener to the album is a definite highlight and is so unlike what the duo have done before.
The single 'Lemon Glow' is certainly a slow burner, I began thinking it was mediocre and now it's a moment on the LP that shines and glows!
'Dive' was the single that really excited most people about this release and with the awesome guitar riff it has building through the second half of the song you can see why. One of the best songs of the year for sure.
From the epic bassline on 'Black Car' to the tragic lyrics of 'Drunk In LA' and the musically fantastic 'Woo', this album gets a strong 9/10. It definitely exceeds my expectations and also Aquilo's dream pop album released a week after this one.
Rated from worst to best:
11. Last Ride
10. L'Inconnue
9. Girl of the Year
8. Lose Your Smile
7. Pay No Mind
6. Black Car
5. Lemon Glow
4. Dark Spring
3. Woo
2. Drunk In LA
1. Dive
