Top 10 Summer Songs 2018

This summer is somewhat regrettably coming to an end, the heatwave having finally ceased its hold on the UK. I thought now is the best time to count down my person favourite summer songs of this year and so without further a do let's get into the...

Honourable Mentions:

"One Kiss" by Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa
"Submarine" by Island Club
"Me and Michael" by MGMT
"Sit Next To Me" by Foster The People
"Hello Hello" by Fickle Friends
"Be Right Here" by Kungs, Stargate, Goldn

10

"If You Know You Know" by Pusha T

Pusha T is without question one of the best rappers of the decade. Whilst Drake bores you to death with 25 song albums, Pusha T makes epic tunes like this. The flows are incredible, the production en point. This is fun, Drake.

9

"Shotgun" by George Ezra

3 months on from the release of his disappointing sophomore, this became his biggest hit (in the UK). Its success has been without question boosted by the heatwave and is enjoyed by a wide array of people. So is George Ezra cool now?

8

"Ultimatum" by Disclosure, FATOUMATA DIAWARA

Funk house music never sounded so good. Disclosure are back and better than ever. This is dance music for those who appreciate the music. The lyrics are amazing but pretty hard to uh.. comprehend.

7

"Feel The Love Go" by Franz Ferdinand

Good music comes out of the best places. In this case Scotland. Franz Ferdinand may have been making music for over a decade now but this song is fresh. The instrumental is phenomenal, especially that saxophone. Yes, I said saxophone.

6

"Humility" by Gorillaz, George Benson

This "band" just won't go away. In this case, that's an excellent thing. This song has seriously fun beach vibes and it is just perfect for the summer. Murdoc might be in prison but this song is free.

5

"I Don't Want U Back" by Børns

Indie pop might be indistinguishable from pop at this point but Børns has so much talent it doesn't really matter. This song is so well produced, sung and performed, it is flawless.

4

"Fast Slow Disco" by St. Vincent

She remixed her own song to make it better. And why not when it turns out like this? Fast Slow Disco is an absolute jam, exceptionally extravagant but exactly what we want. Don't let it be a slow dance today.

3

"Trouble In Paradise" by Girl Talk, Erick the Architect

Pusha T has got some great, great songs but this tops, no, topples all of them. The flow is impeccable and the beat is amazing. The bass adds to the suspense and progression of this song and the lyrics are just fantastic. This is what deserves to be popular in rap music today.

2

"Black Flamingo" by The Wombats

Why is this song so great? Energy. This song is so energetic, a standout and a peak on an album with a definite and disappointing lack of originality and creative energy. This song is just so fun and fresh. This song is why indie rock needs The Wombats.

1

"Pink Lemonade" by James Bay

I don't wanna talk to you-oooo!
Because I just wanna listen to this song (on repeat until I can't take it). But enough with the jokes. James Bay has such potential it is frustrating. When this was released I was so very hopeful his album would sound this good but.. It didn't. Perhaps it's because this song is too good for James Bay. The riffs, the builds, the chorus. Summery perfection.
