REVIEW
Funny how someone can capture the attention of millions of people for being interesting and then follow that up with something entirely generic and mediocre...ah well.
I suppose that isn't entirely true, after all, Roddy Ricch's "The Box" got popular due to its famous squeak, not for his fantastic flows (yes, multiple flows) and vague but impressive lyrics, not to mention that song's epic strings. In fact, the worst part of that song was its trap beat, not because it was whatsoever bad but it was the one uninteresting element to a truly interesting song. So, does Roddy live up to the expectations he set?
No. Whilst Roddy himself is an interesting presence for his flows, the rest of the album leans far closer to the overused trap sounds and structures of 2019 rather than looking forward or incorporating the sort of grander elements such as "The Box"'s strings or lyrical quirks, and as a result almost every other falls flat in an unfair but unavoidable comparison with the hit.
Conclusively, I don't things there's much wrong with this album, but I struggle when looking for any content that actually works or expands past the middle ground this thing occupies. Better luck next time.
