REVIEW
When I listen to this album, I hear elements of dub, house, jazz and afrobeat being merged together in a fusion reminiscent not only of Jeff Parker's album from earlier this year, but also from the genrebending 90s staples like Massive Attack, and even Tosca to a lesser extent. This record is every bit as enticing and complex, only it chooses to channel its fusion not towards IDM and trip hop but house and broken beat, creating a chilled yet intricate atmosphere that you could just as easily appreciate from the background as you could with an in depth listen, able to compliment both moods perfectly.

What Horatio has achieved is an album that might not feel modern, but it's one that certainly feels timeless. From the off kilter instrumental crooning paired with the ominous rapping of guest feauture Throne Boy on the opening track "Some Like It Hot", this record wastes no time in setting up a very specific mood... and then throwing it out the window with the second track. I think perhaps the first track is meant to feel somewhat isolated, a kind of detached prelude that adds a different sound palette to the album without taking away from the charm of the sparkling, wild pianos and syncopated rhythms that dominate the rest of the record.
