Ariana Grande - Thank U, Next (Single Review)
Just 3 months after the release of her lastest album, this pop star is back with new and fresh material that far transcends most of what she put on Sweetener.
"Thank U, Next" is obviously a song about Grande's many exes and does a great job of conveying some of her thoughts on what she's been through with her old boyfriends and what she thinks of them and her situation now. It's personal but generalisable, deep but catchy and wonderfully poppy.
With a good beat, some excellent vocals as usual and an interesting message, this might be one of her best songs. It perfectly fits into the current pop demographic and in fact it's currently no. 1 in the UK and a global smash hit. (Update: Now also her first no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100).
What more could you ask for in an Ariana Grande song? Apart from some massive high notes and a great synthline at some point in the song, nothing!
Atmosphere: 4/5
Catchiness: 4/5
Instrumentation: 3/5
Lyrics: 3/5
Production: 3/5
Overall this is a very good pop song that gets a very light 7 out of 10. I still look forward to future projects from Ariana and possibly a new album...
