Post Malone - Wow. (Single Review)
Post Malone had a huge 2018, he was arguably the biggest popstar of the year, delivering us a mediocre album branded as dark rap but received as dreary, similar trap-pop. He did little to distinguish between songs and even less to make himself actually interesting and somehow still has some reviewers giving him positive reviews and of course he has his humongous fanbase treating every song like gold.. But why? I mean, I'll give it to him he can write a hook but the verses in his songs repel your attention, always so direly boring and uninteresting; worse still is if you are singing along to the verses it's full of misogyny and typical braggadocio which gets very tired very quickly. In short, I don't like Post Malone.
Going into "Wow." I had admittedly very low expectations. It starts with a far-off beat or synth sound and then goes into Post's first verse, one of his most grating to date, his delivery extremely poor and the lyrics his usual brand of storytelling just to flex and brag as much as possible, about the some time the bass and generic trap beat comes in. This process repeats throughout the song for each verse and chorus, the latter being physically painful to listen to, his voice sounding whiny and weak against a beat that itself lacks substance. Pretty much every vocal line Post sings/raps makes him sound unengaged, uninterested and like he's immensely struggling with his flow. He sounds like a complete amateur, parody-like, pathetic version of himself.
Atmosphere: 2/5
Catchiness: 2/5
Instrumentation: 1/5
Lyrics: 1/5
Production: 1/5
Overall, Post Malone delivers one of the worst songs of his career, one that in my eyes cannot be taken seriously because of just how unoriginal the lyrics are. "Wow." is the song that proves Post Malone is a joke that was never funny but overplayed and frustratingly impossible to get rid of. I'm giving this a light 3/10, it's a worthless piece of rubbish that has one single memorable moment and I quote - "G-wagon G-wagon G-wagon". Pure, refined art, I applaud you Post Malone... Congratulations to you!
